Right to Online Anonymity

Peoples identity should be legally protected by law.

This is a petition to Congress to create a law allowing people the right to keeping their identity private online. If people choose to hide behind a name of their choice online it should be their legal right. So long as they are not breaking any existing laws than they are fully within their right to identify themselves as they see fit. This law would also help differentiate people's social lives with their business lives thus adding an extra layer of protection from any possible employment discrimination. Here is a list of people who are potentially harmed by being forced to display their real identity on sites such as Facebook: Doctors, Lawyers, Celebrities, Transgenders, Stalking victims and any family member of a person of notoriety. These are all people who for one reason or another chose to display different names on social media outlets. Asking them to post their identities anywhere that may be displayed online can potentially put any of these people at risk. Every law abiding citizen should be able to use all aspects of the internet in complete anonymity.
