RETROACTIVITY FOR BILL S 1789

DISCRIMINATION

People make mistakes; some learn and others don't but everyone should be given the same opportunity. I was released last year under the change in crack sentencing. It made me believe in the system again; that there are people out there who believe in second chances and not just talk about it. Nothing is being gained by imprisoning someone for long lengths of time for drugs. You see, I have witnessed people being sentenced and released for murder with less time. Crack is no different than cocaine; it is just in a different form and should be treated no differently. This bill should not only apply to those in prison but for those of us who have served well beyond the 65%. This should eliminate our supervised release or adjust the time on it, depending upon the time served. Time is time no matter the length, but sentencing should be fair all around the board.
