Retest the Elderly
Hello, my name is Rachel Strout and I would like to start a petition supporting the fact that elderly people need to be retested for their drivers licenses! I just got into an accident where this elderly man was completely at fault and if it wasn’t for my impressive braking system in my vehicle it could’ve been much worse than what it was. Now, being a younger, pregnant female who is very passionate about her car, I had a lot to be worried about in this moment. Unfortunately, it isn’t just this incident in particular but many more I’ve experienced, witnessed or heard about with friends and colleges that share the same concerns and wish something could be done about this. So, today I chose to take a stand and have a voice in fighting this issue! Elderly need to be properly educated on current road safety and also be able to prove it in action. This petition would keep everyone safe including the elderly. If they can’t perform well on the road then they shouldn’t be driving and risk the safety of themselves and others. There are many statistics that prove this, it not all opinion based. The older the senior driving is the more likely they are to cause or be involved in a car accident. Out of 1000 people involved in a crash nearly 10% of them were seniors. When there are over 7 million car accidents occurring in the U.S per year it’s time issues like this get the attention they need like drunk driving has. It’s time to take a stand. Thank you!
