Require Online Businesses To Provide Cancellation and Data Deletion Upon Request of Users

Recently, I have been trying to close online accounts that I no longer use and delete my data. I'm running into a lot of problems with companies that do not allow data deletion or account closure. One company informed me that since I'm not in California, they won't close my account.

With data privacy and online data leaks becoming more common, having data in multiple locations is a security and privacy risk.

I am proposing that Congress draft legislation to require companies to provide the option for account cancellation and data deletion at the request of the user or provide the user with a legal action that can be taken if the company will not delete their data.
