Repeal the Rescheduling of Low Dose Opioids

Intrusive law aimed at physicians and their patients, don't treat, criminalize

Dear Representative of We The People;

The purpose of this petition is to raise awareness of the abuse of power by the DEA, aimed at physicians and patients. The FDA and DEA have rescheduled HCPs (hydrocodone containing products), making it difficult for patients to have adequate access to proper treatment. FDA made this recommendation eff. Oct. 2014, tightening the restrictions to 3 month maximum for refills, also placing these low dose opioids in the same scheduling class as the highly addictive opioid/opiate based prescription drugs like Morphine or Oxycontin. These restrictions also include - the patient now is on a public registry for use or purchase of controlled substances, and most patients are probably unaware they are on this list. This new law is doing more harm than good. It interferes with the physician/patients private medical records, some states have taken it a step further and limited the dispensing of the prescription to anastesiologists (now labeling them 'pain management' doctors), and many of these physicians will play God to the patient. This law needs to be repealed. Hydrocodone and hydrocodone based prescriptions are not anywhere near as dangerous or addictive as morphine or oxycodone, they do not belong in the same classification, if you ask a doctor, he will tell you just that. And it had even been brought to my attention that because of this new law, the doctors will write a much stronger prescription now, just because the FDA classified them the same. This is a harmful law. It has increased suicides (because chronic pain sufferers no longer have access to pain management), alcohol abuse, and street use. Please repeal this law, it is far overreaching, it is placing a federal crime agency in charge of legitimate physicians and their patients. Thank you.
