Reinstate The Federal Asssult Weapons Ban

Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you. Thomas Jefferson...

Dianne Feinstein's November 2017 bill on the Ban of Assault Weapons must be put to a vote. This is not an infringement on the right to bear arms, it is a practical and logical first step for combating mass shootings in America. A first step that was in place for ten years, from 1994 to 2004. The time for thoughts and prayers has expired, legacies are made by your exertion in this matter not your rhetoric.

As a result of Citizens United, members of congress can now accept an enormous amount of contributions. This has opened up the hefty pocket book of the NRA. Introduced just ten days after being in office. President Trump signed HJ Resolution 40, making it easier for someone with mental illness to purchase a fire arm. NRA Executive Director Chris Cox said "Today marks a new era for law-abiding gun owners, as we have now have a president who respects and supports our right to keep and bear arms."

Senator Feinstein, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding her bill "The Assault Weapons Ban Of 2017":
โ€œWeโ€™re introducing an updated Assault Weapons Ban for one reason: so that after every mass shooting with a military-style assault weapon, the American people will know that a tool to reduce these massacres is sitting in the Senate, ready for debate and a vote.

Here are some key points to Senator Feinstein's Legislation:

1.Bans the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name. Owners may keep existing weapons.

2.Bans any assault weapon that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristics including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock. Owners may keep existing weapons.

3.Bans magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, which allow shooters to quickly fire many rounds without needing to reload. Owners may keep existing magazines.

Exemptions to the bill:

1.The bill exempts by name more than 2,200 guns for hunting, household defense or recreational purposes.

2.The bill includes a grandfather clause that exempts all weapons lawfully possessed at the date of enactment.

Other provisions:

1.Requires a background check on any future sale, trade or gifting of an assault weapon covered by the bill.

2.Requires that grandfathered assault weapons are stored using a secure gun storage or safety device like a trigger lock.

3.Prohibits the transfer of high-capacity ammunition magazines.

4.Bans bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates.

We the people call on congress to stop accepting blood money from the NRA. Our children will one day take steps necessary to mitigate Assault Weapons. I would ask every member of congress, how would you write your legacy? One with a twitter post about thoughts and prayers with your 2 million dollar contribution next to your name. Or a person who defied the odds and made a contribution to your country by saving countless lives of toddlers, teenagers, concert attendees or the many unknown survivors of a tragedy that never happened due to your action....
