Reinforcement of Human Rights Conditions in Florida Agriculture

We demand that U.S Senate, U.S House, and the President allocate funds to reinforce Human Rights Conditions in Florida's agricultural workforce as implied by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Laws. Reluctant of immigration statuses or acquired languages, these workers deserve the bare necessities of good working conditions, access to healthcare, and a decent income.

As proud Americans, individual freedom and self-reliance are two central values this nation had fought to protect. Meanwhile in Florida, underprivileged farm workers recruited with desperate homeless and smuggled Mexican slaves are forced to pick tons of fruits under putrefying and inhumane working conditions. In these camps, workers are encouraged to abuse alcohol and drugs, beaten and punished when showed resistance, and given an income so ridiculous that self-reliance is unattainable. For example, on a good day a tomato picker would earn only $50 dollars from a 1.5 tons 12 hours harvest shift. In addition, the harsh Florida weather combined with the poor living conditions provides workers with a higher susceptibility to injuries and diseases. Therefore, we call of action to fund a committee that will tightly monitor and execute the law to protect the Rights of fruit pickers.
