Protect Military Compensation - Dishonest People at the Top Say Servicemembers Dont\' Care About Benefits
The troops do care about protecting their compensation (pay, housing, healthcare and commissary privilages)!
Two of my sons are currently serving on active duty in the military. They have told me how they feel and how others around them feel. Additionally, I know numerous servicemembers myself and the sentiment is the same.
I have seen reports from nearly every service secretary, top general and top enlisted member echo the same story over the past few months. Their servicemembers are ready and willing to take the proposed 1% pay raise, 5% reduction in housing benefits, increase healthcare fees and deal with the effects of reducing the commissary budget by 66%. Why wasn't a survey conducted by an independent party? In this day in age with computers it doesn't require much.
Servicemembers are people too and people want to protect their way of life. The issues in question provide a direct, negative effect on them and their families. So why again would they want to do this? Yes it is important to maintain defense but there are certainly some things that do not reflect. We are reducing our end strength and equipment so low that we may soon be viewed as weak.
Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have cost our taxpayers (servicemembers included) somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-6 trillion dollars! Dollars continue to flow for our continued operations in Afghanistan, yet we want to keep people there? We also all understand the need for humanitarian aid and while that is not the focus of this discussion, aid should not go to those that do not have good intentions. Yet, hundreds of millions of dollars are given away yearly and people are saying our servicemembers and their families are willing sacrifice financially.
Many servicemembers have been involved in the wars and some never made it home. So in the end what this is saying to all of us, civilians and servicemembers alike, is thank you for what you've done but because it's easier let's cut here. I notice only a couple are allowed to speak to the public on the regular basis and unfortunately they aren't being a true representative of their people. I'll do my best to assist.
