Protect Civil Liberties—End Mass Surveillance of American Citizens
The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees Americans the right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. Yet, in the name of national security, government agencies such as the NSA have engaged in mass surveillance programs that collect the private communications of millions of innocent Americans without warrants or probable cause.
These programs, enabled by legislation such as the USA PATRIOT Act and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), represent a dangerous expansion of state power. Mass data collection not only violates individual privacy but also creates chilling effects on freedom of speech, press, and association. No citizen should live under the constant fear of being watched by their own government.
We demand an end to dragnet surveillance practices and the repeal or substantial reform of laws that permit these violations. Transparency and judicial oversight must be restored to ensure that intelligence-gathering efforts are narrowly targeted and respect civil rights. Surveillance should never be used as a tool of political repression or social control.
Congress must act now to protect American freedoms. Safeguarding national security cannot come at the cost of the constitutional rights of the people. Let us defend our democracy by insisting on accountability, due process, and the restoration of privacy for all citizens.
