Private Family/conjugal Visitation MN DOC

Help lower the rate of recidivism and sexual assault in prisons

Research in other states has shown that having the opportunity for inmates to have private family visitation not only reduces the risk of recidivism but it also encourages a healthier and more productive attitude when in prison making safer working conditions for the staff and a safer environment in the community when the inmate is eventaulyl released. To add those inmates who are married should be allowed to preserve their marriages and families through the duration of incarceration especially if they will be gone for a longer sentence. Family is the core to a good and healthy community and if we can promote family values to the corrections community as well as the public the benefits would be far greater than the cons. It would cost less to have a private family/conjugal visitation program than it costs each time they reoffend or recommit. Going to prison costs inmates everything so all they have when they get out often times is a need to get back to prison but if the bonds of family mostly that of a husband and wife and children are encouraged and promoted they have a family to work towards. People including inmates do grow from there mistakes but incentives help. The last point to be made here is that the families of inmates suffer as well having committed no crime at all and society as it stands right now is judging the families and treating the families as criminals because we love and attempt to stand by them. I ask that the families of inmates are considered in this decision as well as the definition of the word corrections when the department of corrections creates and releases more criminals than it receives. Put an end to the cycle and get back to the basics. FAMILY
