President Biden must negotiate with Russia NOW to stop the war with Ukraine
U.S. politicians, and particularly President Biden, are the only ones who have the power to end the senseless bloodshed of the Ukrainian people and the destruction of their country. The irresponsible and unrealistic policy overtures made by the U.S. to Ukraine led the country down the primrose path to it's current predicament, where the country is left to helplessly face off against a far greater military power with endless resolve and firepower.
Meanwhile, as Europe and the U.S. irresponsibly cheer on Zelensky and his aspirations for the "NATO-ization" of Ukraine, the West has also made it abundantly clear that we will not come to Ukraine's defense and provide Article 5 protections (as doing so would risk a nuclear war with Russia. ) As the Ukraine cannot prevail against Russia without this requisite support, the only sensible path forward, the only one that can save countless Ukrainian lives, is for the United States to immediately facilitate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.
We must agree to offer to help rebuild this country that our irresponsible policy actions have helped to destroy. The U.S. should hasten to tell President Z. that his best bet is to agree to the sensible terms which Russian has put forth: (1) explicitly agree to a neutral and independent Ukraine, (U.S. will stop meddling in Ukrainian politics, training its military, etc.) (2) explicitly cede political control of the Donbas region to Russia as this area is already ethnically Russian (3) explicitly cede political control of Crimea as its ethnically Russian and already essentially belongs to Russia.
The sooner the U.S. moves in the direction of peace - and ceases with the warlike rhetoric, sanctions and shipments of armaments to Ukraine - the sooner countless lives of innocent Ukrainian and Russians lives will be saved. We also need to act to stave off a wider and potentially much more dangerous World war. Our best bet to exporting democracy is not through more war, death and destruction but through the adept use of soft power and incremental change.
