Poll America's scientific community on the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7

Congress should authorize a poll of faculty members at U.S. colleges and universities about why Building 7 came down

Eleven years after 9/11 America still hasn?t gotten scientific straight answers from the U.S. government on key questions about Building 7 of the World Trade Center.

This petition asks Congress to authorize the Congressional Research Service (CRS) to conduct a nationwide poll of individual faculty members in architecture, engineering, physics and chemistry at America?s colleges and universities and ask them whether the government?s steel expansion theory or the controlled demolition theory is supported or refuted by the evidence and which theory is scientifically valid.

Unless the poll demonstrates much greater support for the steel expansion theory than the explosive controlled demolition theory, Congress shall authorize NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology) to re-open its investigation of Building 7.

The Congressional Research Service?s cover letter accompanying the poll shall describe the background of Building 7, the evidence for each theory and shall also say:

"Dear faculty member,

Congress has authorized the Congressional Research Service to poll individual faculty members in architecture, engineering, physics and chemistry at America's colleges and universities and ask you to evaluate the two most widely known theories for the collapse of Building 7 of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. We want to know your assessment of each of these theories ? whether each is supported or refuted by the evidence and whether it is scientifically valid.

Consider the following observations and key facts which partly were easily observable for everybody on television and/or which NIST belatedly admitted as a result of public comments:

1) A period of free fall gravitational acceleration by the 47th Floor of Building 7 for 2.25 seconds. NIST?s final report stated, ?A more detailed analysis of the descent of the north face found ? (2) a freefall descent over approximately eight stories at gravitational acceleration for approximately 2.25 s?.? and, "This free fall drop continued for approximately 8 stories or 32.0 m (105 ft) ?." (Final Report on the Collapse of World Trade Center Building 7, NIST NCSTAR 1A, page 48, 45)

2) sudden transition from complete rest into free fall,

3) complete symmetry of the collapse into the footprint of the building,

4) the fact that the building was totally demolished ? no columns remained unbroken in the resulting pile, and

5) no other steel-frame high-rise has ever collapsed due to fire.

Questions:

#1) In light of these facts, in your opinion does NIST?s steel expansion theory adequately explain the collapse of Building 7? Use a scale of 1 to 5

#2) In light of these facts, in your opinion does the explosive controlled demolition theory adequately explain the collapse of Building 7? Use the same scale.

#3) What is the scientific and factual basis for your responses?

Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely,

Congressional Research Service"
