Police and Veteran Partnership for Public Safety (Amendment to H.R. 218)

Establishing a formal partnership for honorably-discharged veterans to support the Law Enforcement Community and the American Public as Ambassadors who never took off the uniform.

Draft and Support a bill which would formally acknowledge a partnership which already exists unofficially between Veterans and Law Enforcement.

ISSUES TO BE FIXED:

(1) A growing distrust of the American public over the militarization of the U.S. law enforcement agencies (local, state, and federal).

(2) Honorably-discharged military veterans who have been trained to handle terrorist attacks and intelligence collection are a resource which is not being tapped into by those who are charged with protecting America against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

PROPOSAL

(1) To ease the level of distrust between the American public and Law Enforcement, AMEND H.R. 218 to include honorably-discharged veterans who have completed the mandatory 8-year service (Active, Reserve, Guard). Vets would be required to meet all of the requirements of H.R. 218, however, to fulfill the qualification requirement, the veteran would be required to pay and complete a state approved qualification course (NRA pistol, etc.).

Consider a provision which would expedite concealed carry permitting for veterans with active national security clearances (TS/SCI).

*VETERANS WOULD NOT HAVE ARREST AUTHORITY.

**VETERANS ARE ACTIVE IN NON-VIOLENT POLITICAL INTEREST GROUPS AND HAVE A VOICE IN AMERICA AND SHOULD BE UTILIZED TO VOLUNTARILY SUPPORT AMERICA, EVEN UPON SEPARATION FROM THE ARMED FORCES.
