Please Oppose Act 7529 / Bill No. 30-1529 for the U.S. Virgin Islands
Attention Virgin Islanders who are tired of self serving politicians in our government, sign this petition today to be sent to the U.S. Congress to oppose the V.I. Senators' request to extend their term limits to 4 years.
Dear U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, & President Obama
I am a very concerned Virgin Islander from the island of St. Thomas. I am contacting you today because our local government is in a very bad state of affairs with rampant corruption both in our local government's operations and our elections. Our V.I. Senate has placed a referendum on our 2014 election ballot trying to extend their own term limits to 4 years without any input from the local community. They are a bunch of self serving individuals who only care about their own well being and their special interests. We, the people, voted on a referendum in 2000 to try to actually reduce the number of sitting senators in the Virgin Islands. Which the V.I. Senate completely ignored and instead voted raises for the Legislature and Executive branches instead! We currently have 15 senators for our tiny speck of islands which is way more than we actually need with our relatively tiny population and geographic size and I must add the second highest paid legislature in America. Please, if you can bring this up to the attention of everyone in Congress that they will be asking you all to revise the Organic Act amending Section 6(1) of the revised Organic Act of 1954 to increase the term of office of local Senators from two years to four years. Do not grant this wish. I will personally create an online petition to highlight just how strongly against this referendum the people of the Virgin Islands are. I am contacting you directly because, our representative Donna Christensen, is up for election this year as governor and def will do nothing about this issue because she doesn't want to touch such a hot issue during an election time. Please, if you can help we desperately need it here in the V.I. Our government has been broken for a long time and we are in desperate times economically because of inept corrupt representation in Government and we need change ever so badly. Thanks for your time and consideration and please let me know where I can send the results of our petition to highlight this travesty against the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Sincerely,
Eric Neal Hammond
