Please oppose appeal Assange
Dear Mr. President, dear members of the United States Congress,
Please oppose an appeal against the British verdict not to extradite Julian Assange to the U.S., as read out during the final hearing in the Assange Case, on 4 Januari 2021 in London.
The world is dealing with a pandemic, with increasing financial strains and with national and international tensions, because of it.
In all this chaos, we need truth, transparency, accountability and unity.
Now more than ever, we need you to honour the First Amendment and to protect a free press.
Please drop the case against Julian Assange.
Let us all work on healing, rather than destroying: healing our countries, economies, our sick and troubled.
The amount of time, money and energy we will all save by resting this case, will be so much better spent on bigger, much more pressing issues.
Thomas Jefferson stated: "When the speech condemns a free press, you are hearing the words of a tyrant." Please, let us move on and ensure that whatever the New Normal will be, a free press will be one of its pillars.
Yours faithfully,
