Petition to Declare February 19th a National Holiday for National Hickey Day

Honorable Members of Congress:

I am writing to urge you to declare February 19th a national holiday to be celebrated annually as National Hickey Day.

A hickey is a mark left on the skin after kissing or sucking on it and they have long been symbols of affection throughout cultures. They have been given as a sign of love and appreciation, and have been popular among teens worldwide for decades. It has long been a part of the fabric of our culture.

Declaring National Hickey Day would celebrate the culture that has evolved around the exchange of hickeys. It would promote understanding and acceptance for those who do choose to display their affection for one another in this way. It would also encourage individuals to engage in healthy and consensual behavior as they indulge in playful display of their affections.

It has been argued that such a holiday is too frivolous or even “trashy” to merit public celebration, but I would argue that National Hickey Day is much more than simply a giddy day of making out. It provides a platform to talk about the need for respect in relationships. It also presents an opportunity for couples to reflect on their connection, and take a moment to honor their shared love for one another.

It is for these reasons that I believe declaring February 19th a national holiday for National Hickey Day would be an important and worthwhile endeavor. Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.

Sincerely,
Sven Patzer
