Pause all nonessential government spending
Dear Representative LaLota,
I write in opposition to H.R. 835 the 911/Memorial and Museum Act. By way of background, I am a retired NYPD Police Officer and I was a first responder to Ground Zero on 9/11/2001. I absolutely support the memorial and museum at Ground Zero. It is a beautiful tribute to all who perished on 9/11 especially my brother and sister first responders who continue to suffer and die from 9/11 related illnesses.
However, my last look at the National Debt indicated that we are quickly approaching $36.5 trillion dollars, which compels me to respectfully request that you table this otherwise honorable legislation for the time being. The Trump administration (“DOGE”) has been working hard to identify and eliminate over $65 Billion in waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer funds and both the administration and Elon Musk are taking a lot of fire for doing so. The timing of this legislation could not be worse and is a slap in the face to extraordinary efforts being made by the Trump administration to reduce the deficit and bolster our economy, especially in light of the elimination of the spending by USAID.
Please work with President Trump, not against him. I will be forwarding this to President Trump asking that he veto this bill for the same reasons.
Respectfully,
Joe Murray
