In 2003, I was brought into court just before my release from prison and advised that a family with more money wanted to adopt my son. They assured me that I would have minimal contact with my son. I was not given any chance at proving myself as a recovering addict at all. I celebrated 11 years clean in recovery in April. I put since my release I went to college, kept steady work and a roof over my head. I have done everything I can to prove that I am a person who will provide a stable home for my children. But, the deed is done. I was backed into a wall when they "severed" my rights as a parent. I had not been given a fair chance to really prove my worth as a human being and mother. I am one of the parents who have been VICTIMIZED by DYFS (the Division of Youth and Family Services). I met Melissa Shannon in 2004. We got to know each other and that we have similar stories about the division. She proved her worth as a parent. And they still kept her daughter! I pray that a lawyer picks up her case pro-bono as I will continue my education in the legal field to help fight this fight against the division. They "think" they heard the last of me. But, the beginning hasn't' even begun. I will be playing a huge part in all the research and law that will go into that case!! Because, like many other cases we are all in this together!! I personally have not been a victim of DYFS but I am a long time friend of Melissa Shannon from South River. Before I moved away, we were tied to the hip. I have personally witnessed the gruesome mishandling that DYFS has taken over peoples families. I know her and her children and know what a great mom she is. It is a well known fact in NJ that if you want to get someone back for something they did to you, just call DYFS, because no matter how false the allegations seem to be, they just won't go away. DYFS should be a service to help children of abuse and if possible help the families who are in hard times eventually get their children back. They have proven to be more of a disservice to families.REPORT COMMENTS

my child was taken from me in 1999. i was told that after 15 months of foster care that the family she was with "was rich and the ex-mayor of watchung and were going to fight me for custody", i found out thats what they tell everyone, a rich family has the child, blah blah blah, i know this cuz a friend of mine JUST heard it yesterday. my case is deep and sorrowful, they NEVER gave any blood relatives a chance, and my mom WANTED her.REPORT COMMENTS

Even when the worker & supervisors tell u the charges are unfounded the still persist or bully you into service even when you have set up services on your own. they try to duplicate & keep referals to doctors on going thats why most of the children not all are out of control. they are trying to take the power to raise your child away from the parent. Not all workers are like that just mostly all of them are trying to further their careers of destoying families.REPORT COMMENTS

STOP DYFS/CPS from taking our children! We need to protect our OWN children and our OWN Families from those who see families as dollar signs for the state! Does the DYFS/CPS worker know exactly what they are doing? Are they really indeed helping? So why if they "claim" their purpose is to reunite families DO THEY use a "Time-Past" excuse-AFTER-one year which THEY themselves STALL FOR?! WHY? Because of something called the FEDERAL ADOPTION INCENTIVE/BONUS/FUND! No one can tell me 444,000 families have abused their children when many-foster parents have also abuse/killed/raped the children they have sworn to protect.
