Make Elder Abuse Laws as Punishable as Child Abuse and Domestic Abuse

The elderly population is just as vulnerable as children for abuse and exploitation

Please support stronger prosecution tools to enforce the existing laws, to protect our seniors. The laws are often overlooked when family members are the perpetrators. More often than not family members are the trusted caregivers. The law enforcement tend to look the other way when family is involved in the abuse. The law enforcement must see these cases, as abuse not a family dispute. These cases deserve an objective investigation with accountability by law enforcement, prosecutors, and adult protective services. Our senior Baby Boomers are coming of age now, we must do more to protect them. The betrayal by family from this kind of abuse is worse than if a stranger had been the perpetrator. There needs to be similar laws in place to protect the victim. The laws need to be updated to hold law enforcement and prosecutors to same accountability as domestic abuse and child abuse. It is the same kind of helpless vulnerable population who need protection. Now the laws are not being enforced, and the crimes are rising since it is easy to take advantage of this vulnerability.
