Legal Vital Records Change for Transgendered Individuals

Transgendered individuals should be able to change their vital records (passports/drivers licenses/military records etc.) based on their self-identifying gender.

Transgendered individuals are at an increased risk of assault or injury, and experience disenfranchisement and oppression merely for identifying as a gender other than what they were labelled at birth. Transgendered individuals already possess rights under the US constitution, however simple amendments to vital records are currently bogged down in bureaucracy and legislative ignorance. As such, the transgendered community struggles to achieve their optimal level of health and well-being. Transgendered individuals should have the right to easily change their vital records in line with their self-identified gender. Once they are able to easily amend all records, they will become empowered as a community and as individuals, and will truly begin to be accepted and included in all facets of contemporary society. We ask you to consider if your passport or driver?s license did not accurately reflect your identity. What would it do to your confidence and status as a person to know that the government recognizes your right for anatomical change, but not to have that reflected on your records?

Please sign our petition if you believe in full inclusion for the transgendered community, including the ability to legally be able to change vital records in reflection to gender identity.
