I totally conquer with this petition and the verbage that is written. I am a police officer and it is for certain that we as VA Police Officers do face the same dangers that other law enforcement officers face everyday and even more so because the people who we interact with on a daily basis are all trained to kill because they are all Veterans of the United States Military. It has been a travesty of justice and equality that we have not been included in this retirement option. This bill should be passed immediately.

If you don't consider us law enforcement, don't call us when your car is stolen, when someone stole your personal items, when someone breaks into your home or office, when you're being assaulted, when someone threatens your life, or when someone comes to your office and starts shooting.

It's absolutely appauling that Department of Veteran Affairs Police Officers are not considered Law Enforcement officers for the purpose of retirement. The receive the same training and face the same challenges and dangers that all law enforcement officers face every day they put on a uniform and report to work. They spend their day protecting those around them-veterans, VA staff members and the public at large. I see no difference in their responsibilities then I see in a any other police officer. They respond to emergencies, they take control of dangerous situation many time risking their own life in doing so. How can anyone who understands law enforcement believe these fine officers do not deserve the same retirement as their counterparts in other law enforcement agencies.

Many in Federal Law Enforcement have to meet higher standards of performance and fitness vs. their local counterparts, we should at least be comparable in pay and benefits.

Let all Federal Police Officers be treated equally and fairly. We proudly serve this country and will give our lives if necessary to protect it. Please stop the interagency bias and discrimination and give us equal retirement with our fellow federal LEO's! Thank you!

Hello I am an Inspector Douglas Thornton with FPS. There is no difference between those of us defined as NON-LEO to those who are LEO. We at FPS drive a marked unit with POLICE on it. We have badges that say POLICE on it and our uniforms say POLICE on it. We are federally ceritified law enforcement officer. We had to go to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center(FLETC) to be certified. We took and passed the tests, we took the oath to serve and protect. Under that right we deserve the full law enforcement officer retirement coverage. Trust me we are POLICE. The public calls us COPS and we dress the part and perform the duites and are addressed as such. It would be absolutely absurd if we did not have the same coverage as other federal LEO's when we all have the same basic LEO responsibilities. I support bill 1362, Law Enforcement Officers Equity Act. Please understand that its not just the individuals that this helps but its the families of the LEO's who protect this great nation. thank you and semper fidelis Douglas M. Thornton
