Jewish Community Petition against Torturing Animals for Cosmetics

The Jewish community must stand united against animal torture.

One of the most heinous acts of animal cruelty is the egregious use of cosmetic ingredient testing on innocent creatures. The procedures are blood-curdling: force-feeding to the point of burst, irritants rubbed into skin and eye without anesthetic, and swallowing chemicals to the point of lethal dose. Once testing is complete, the animals who forego so much of their precious, thankless lives for people's vanity are callously and painfully discarded as nothing more than worthless detritus.

But there is something on the table that can end the torture. The Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 2858) proposes to end cosmetics testing on animals! The HCA calls for a prohibition on animal testing for cosmetics produced in the United States, eased in gradually over the course of a year after passage, and would also prohibit the importation of cosmetics for which animal tests had been conducted (to take effect three years after passage). The bill is sponsored by Republican Representatives Martha McSally (AZ) and Joe Heck (NV) and Democratic Representatives Don Beyer (VA) and Tony Cárdenas (CA).

The shocking disregard for the welfare and sentience of animals needs to end now! Please do you part to support this legislation. Sign your name here and urge your representatives in Washington to vote for this bill. The Jewish community must stand united against animal torture. Now is the time!
