INDEPENDENT Senator Angus King should not be counted as either Party for Senate Control

We, the citizens of Maine, wish to express our opposition to our elected INDEPENDENT Senator, Angus King’s personal choice to Caucus with the Democratic Party. We VOTED for him to be independent of either political party. In the 2020 election, the majority of Maine counties were won by President Donald Trump. Additionally, prior to his tenure, the seat he now holds was held for 18 years by Republican Senator Olympia Snowe. Although his mandate was clear, he has repeatedly chosen to align with a party he did not identify with, prior to being elected. We believe the unofficial practice of allowing an Elected Representative, who is NOT Enrolled in either party, to arbitrarily choose his alignment following an election, assigns a much larger degree of power to a single individual than intended by our forefathers. Under The 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, WE THE PEOPLE OF MAINE hereby formally decree that for purposes of Senate control, our elected INDEPENDENT Senator must not be allowed to align with either party.
