Immediate funding of USACE to resolce beach and dune erosion along Norfolk Beaches
Due to the modifications performed by the US DOD to the jetty's along Little Creek, there has been excessive and unexpected beach and dune erosion along the Norfolk beaches. The changes to the Little Creek jetty were done to support marine traffic related to the Fort Story Joint Expeditionary Base (JEB). The beaches have receded over 40 ft in the last three years. Initial estimates by the City of Norfolk and US Army Corp of Engineers indicate that $25M is needed to re-nourish the beaches and prevent further destruction of the dunes ecosystem.
This petition request that Congressman Bobby Scott, Senator Kaine and Senator Warner take immediate action to provide such funding to allow the necessary work to be initiated ASAP and completed in 2024.
