Help Patients By Expediting Biomedical Innovation

The 21st Century Cures Act will accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of life saving and life improving therapies to treat diseases.

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the 21st Century Cures Act (HR 6), and it is now being considered by the Senate. This legislation will provide multiple incentives to foster the research and treatment of rare cancers and a variety of other diseases. Among them are:

1. developing drugs for rare diseases

2. removing barriers to increased research collaboration

3. modernizing clinical trials

4. giving patients more say in the drug development and regulatory review process

5. advancing personalized medicine to expedite disease identification and

assessment as to whether therapies are working

By investing in dedicated funding for the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration, the legislation will help foster the next-generation scientists needed to develop and regulate these therapies, while also maintaining the US edge in the medical device and biopharmaceutical industries. The bill will also create numerous critical jobs and reduce the deficit by over $500 million.
