Healthcare is a Basic Human Right
Healthcare is a human right! Historically in the United States, healthcare has not been seen as a human right. This results in unnecessary suffering and even death to ensure profits for insurance companies. The Affordable Care Act has improved access to health care, but 28 million people remain uninsured (CDC, ND). Nearly 45,000 deaths annually are attributable to lack of insurance coverage (Maruthappu, Ologunde, & Gunarajasingam, 2013). The number of insured low wage earners has increased, but middle-class Americans have seen severe increases in their policy rates, co-pays, and deductibles resulting in unaffordable medical care even with insurance. The current health care system is not sustainable. Take greed by insurance companies out of the healthcare system and provide quality healthcare to everyone through a single payor system.
