FREEDOM For PHAM THANH NGHIEN

Please help free her from prison by supporting this cause.

The Honorable Barack Obama

The President Of The United States Of America

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear Mr. President:

We are writing on behalf of all citizens concerned about Miss Pham Thanh Nghien, who was unfairly sentenced on January 29, 2010 in a Vietnamese Communist secret trial, in which there were no press, no lawyer representing her, and none of her family allowed. We urge you to intervene in this case of a young woman?s struggle for political human rights.

On September 13, 2008, Miss Pham Thanh Nghien, a citizen of Vietnam, was taken down to the Vietnamese Communist Police Department in Hai Phong, Vietnam. She was confined in isolation until January 29, 2010. Her ?crime? was a non-violent hunger-strike inside her own property with a banner reading "Hoang Sa & Truong Sa Islands belong to Vietnam."

According to the Vietnamese Constitution and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Vietnam is a member, her peaceful actions were not a violation. However, Miss Pham Thanh Nghien was still arrested and subsequently convicted of 4 years in prison and 3 years under house arrest.

United States Senator Barbara Boxer and Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez and Zoe Lofgren have written a letter to President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Triet on January 28, 2010, requesting her release. We appreciate their advocacy and are attaching their request with this letter.

We believe that political suppression cannot continue to be upheld in Vietnam should Vietnam want to continue enjoying Permanent Normal Trade Relations with the United States and of being exempt from the Country of Particular Concern designation.

Therefore, we respectfully request you and your administration to intervene. Miss Pham Thanh Nghien, like any citizen of the world, is entitled to basic human rights. Please urge the Vietnamese government release Miss Pham Thanh Nghien immediately and unconditionally.

Very truly yours,

H.G. (Hanh-Giao) Nguyen
