First, Do No Harm, Stop Government Interference that is Restricting Physician's from Effectively Managing Chronic Pain
The recommendation from the Surgeon General that was put out to almost 3 million Physicians, Dentists and Nurses, named "Change the Tide", is an affront to those patients whose Chronic Pain is being managed with Opiods. For a legitimate Chronic Pain Patient that has adhered to the contracts they signed when going into pain management and have been compliant, has to now know what their future is going to be like with less medication. The outlook is bleak.
To treat a senior citizen like a drug seeking criminal is uninformed and thoughtless. How is it we are all being lumped into one category? My doctor is not stupid. As a matter of fact his credentials are impeccable and above reproach. He is a specialist in the field of pain management, firstly being an Anesthesiologist. I am sorry, that parents did not supervise their children and teach them not to take someone else's medication. Education begins at home. And I am sorry that our government did not have in place some sort of regulatory commission to watch dog these quack doctors before they were allowed to open up these pill mills. And where is the integrity of these pharmacies that allowed thousands upon thousands of these quack prescribed medications to be dispensed by them?
Bottom line is we legitimate pain patients are basically collateral damage in the '"Change the Tide" campaign. I feel violated as a human being treated yet again as a number and not as an individual. Where is the humanity in all of this? Where is discretion in all of this?
I am sure the 'tide has changed' out there on the streets. You will be seeing more criminal activity, done by persons who would have never dreamt they would have to go to the streets for pain relief. There will be more robberies, over doses and suicides before it is all said and done, and a lot of them were loyal, taxpaying senior citizens, The ER's will be filled with people in pain looking for relief because the medicine they were given wasn't enough to keep them functional.,
This is a true travesty. There has to be a better way, not this knee jerk reaction.
