Federal oversite of all state child support laws and child support enforcement offices to prevent abuse of authority
Congress should create an office of child support oversite that includes an office of inspector general so that the federal government would have oversite of state and county child support laws and or child support enforcement to prevent abuse of authority by the state or county when enforcing and or creating child support orders. This would ensure that child support orders are truly being written in the BEST interest of the child and not the pockets of the mother/custodial parent. It is time that child support stops placing unreasonable amounts of monthly child support payments and outrageous back pay arrears that non-custodial parents can't reasonably be expected to pay. If Congress can allow a tax code to forgive IRS debt such as an offer in compromise, or to relieve civil debts such as chapter 7 and chapter 13 debts, there should be such a arrears relief law to forgive or significantly reduce arrears debts by up to 75% or more. Arrears debts aren't usually beneficial to the child, it only benefits the custodial parent and usually the custodial files and asks for arrears in retaliation not to benefit the child but themselves.
