Federal Government Employed Service Connected Veterans Leave

Service connected veterans who work for the Federal Government should be given some sort of allotment of free leave for service connected appointments conducted through the VA.

The federal government employs thousands of veterans. Many of the veterans employed by the federal government have and/or struggle with a service connected disabilitie(s) such as PTSD. Majority of which receive treatment for their service connected disabilities through the Veteran Affairs Health Care System. Federal employees are required to request and take leave for vacations, appointments, emergent situations, etc. A veteran, whom of which is a government employee, must use leave for service connected appointments. For a veteran with a severe disability, such as PTSD, they can quickly exhaust their accrued leave balances for appointments regarding such a disability. We are calling for action on this issue. Government employed veterans should not have to deplete their leave balances for such appointments. Veterans of this country have served their country, and done so with professionalism and honor. This is not to imply that there will be no guidelines set forth to regulate usage of such a system. For example, veteran employees are not expected to get an unlimited amount of leave for service connected disabilities, but be given an allotment that has been researched, studied, and discussed before being implemented. However, action must be taken on this issue and done so for the well-being of our veteran employees and their families.
