Dry Cleaning Businesses needs desperate help
My name is Yong Ho Lee. I am president of The Cleaners Association of NJ and a proud owner of a dry cleaning business in New Jersey. our 800 proud members of CANJ are writing this petition with desperate need of your help.
Starting back in March of 2020, we faced Covid-19 Pandemic issues just like other businesses across the state. During the pandemic shutdown, Dry-Cleaning was designated as an essential business by the government. Thereafter, we have invested to keep our doors open while being safe as possible by putting up plastic barriers and purchasing sanitizers, masks, gloves, and other PPE. Unfortunately, the reality was very different from our expectation as we suffered a significant financial loss due to continued government shut down orders and delays in reopening of workplaces. We have remained opened throughout the pandemic because we were a part of essential workers.
These days, 18 months after the pandemic, many dry cleaning businesses are shutting their stores from financial burden of unpaid rent, loans and utility bills. Recently, there was an announcement of government assistance for restaurants and food services industry for their lost revenue in 2020, but it was disappointing to see that nothing followed which a dry cleaning business can be qualified for.
We opened our door when you asked us to do. We are now asking you to do the same for us. Do not let our doors get shut because of unpaid rent and utilities bills. Give us an opportunity to stand up once again as other essential workers.
