Dr. Adams’ motto as Surgeon General is “better health through better partnerships.”…Cocky Doody!!!!

How many of you know who the present Surgeon General is of the United States? I had NO idea. He, Dr. Jerome Adams, took office September 5, 2017 as the 20th Surgeon General…just about the time when the “Opiod Crisis” coincidentally began, huh??? In his biography, he states;

“His mission as the “Nation’s Doctor,” is to advance the health of the American people.” “Dr. Adams also released Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General’s Spotlight on Opioids, and a digital postcard calling for a cultural shift in the way Americans think about, talk about, and respond to the opioid crisis. His Surgeon General’s postcard recommends actions that can prevent and treat opioid misuse, and promote recovery.”[1]

Recovery, recovery…recovery? He can promote all he wants, but some health issues you just ARE NOT ABLE to RECOVER from. That has to be the most idiotic goal. And I’m talking not about recovery from the drugs, but recovery from what caused you to seek out help from drugs!

Life’s wonderful isn’t it…no, it really is. That is if you have a reasonable amount of “quality of life.” Some have more than others either due to genetics, chosen lifestyle or just plain luck. But NOT
all people have the luxury of excellent quality of life due to the same elements. OR, they are good people who care about themselves are proud of what they have learned and put it to good use doing, well, whatever type of job they chose. Some, unfortunately don’t have that
luxury; they take the job that’s open.

Have you ever thought of what jobs require…I mean, think of the assembly line worker doing the same thing day in and day out. Yeh, they get paid for doing the job, but as they age (and all of us do) they start to notice physical results of the day in and day out drudgery. Well, you say…”they picked the job, tough.” But then you look at some jobs that seem so mundane and easy like an office job, but STILL the mental stress of deadlines, typing 100’s of pages a day, answering the phone, filtering out the nuances or listening to rude people and their complaints…it gets old…just like you…it gets old and you feel the physical affects. And I’m talking about the people who LIKE their job…think of the ones who HATE their jobs!!!

“Retirement”…that always makes me laugh. Following is the “New Oxford American Dictionary’s definition of the word:

retirement | rəˈtī(ə)rmənt | noun 1 the action or fact of leaving one's job and ceasing to work: a man nearing retirement | the libraryhas seen a large number of retirements this year.
• the period of one's life after leaving one's job and ceasing to work: he spent much of his retirement traveling in Europe.
• the action or fact of ceasing to play a sport competitively.[2]

I laugh because most people work TOWARD retirement so they can relax, travel, play sports…chill. If you have cared about your work or have had good work ethics and gone the extra mile at times, if you’ve stayed late to see a project through, if you work a double shift because your relief is sick, you’re most likely are not too interested in jogging, tennis or downhill skiing…you’re tired…YOU ARE TIRED. You want to sit in that recliner and watch old “Gunsmoke” episodes, and you feel the results of your labor…bending, twisting, pulling, lifting, sitting and sitting, standing and standing. That leg you broke when you were a kid is now acting up, you’ve got stomach issues because of the stress that, yes, YOU put yourself under to please management or get ahead in the company. I mean you’re an employee who works in the United States…the best and most powerful country in the world, so you CARE about your job, but here you sit in pain. You are hurting. Sure your loved ones care, your close friends care…but that’s about IT!

You know, I think of the previous generation. They were and are tough cookies. There, of course, was WWI and WWII, a lot of work and a lot of pain. They have been able to get relief for years from many of their Primary Physicians without having to pee in a cup or be cynically scrutinized. They’re heros for God’s sake, but we still have heros…you don’t have to step on a land mine to be a hero! Additionally, you have to always consider that alcohol in the 40’s through the 50’s was, well, NORMAL. Just as smoking was “it”…the thing to do. In fact, I get a kick out of the old films showing CEO’s and below with liquor in their offices and many, many more workers in those days sought the ole bottle for relief.

Well, now you have thousands and thousands of “Baby Boomers.” And a lot of the “boomer” workers are females and females working non-traditional jobs. They work on the highways (I say that with tongue and cheek because I’ve very seldom seen a male or female actually WORKING on our highways, but then again, they have to do all that standing).

What I’m getting to, is that there are “boomers” out there who are hurting. They still want to contribute to society…they DO want to play golf, tennis, swim, they do want to join a worthwhile “cause” or “committee” or “association.” And even though they are in pain, with the help of the correct amount of pain killers. That’s something YOU feel and know when you’ve asked for too high a dose! And your doctor knows from your feedback what to give you and how much to give you…you want EXCELLENT advice. And these people CAN FUNCTION NORMALLY, they CAN LEARN new things, they CAN BE VITAL and they CAN HAVE QUALITY OF LIFE. Believe it or not, when taking pain medication YOU CAN TELL WHEN YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO DO SOMETHING AND HAVE THE SENSE TO STOP.

So, you here from others, “well, you picked you vocation,” or “you decided to go hiking when you know you are not strong enough,” or, “you brought this on yourself.” Well, if it’s hereditary, you certainly didn’t ASK for this pain and if you are a United States Citizen…this (work) is expected of you. You are expected to pay taxes, to pay for your house, to pay for your car, to pay for your (?) healthcare and you are expected to contribute to the privilege of FREEDOM. And, now our government (the stooges who never show up in Congress) because they’re out chipping and putting and popping pills and drinking have left a large part of our population…in PAIN and USELESS.

They you ask, well, how many of our presidents most likely took some kind of pain medication? Well, just off the top of my, Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, Dwight D. Eisenhower, JFK,…even “good ole Abe” may have had to take something…alcohol, opium, laudanum AND/OR morphine and still ran the country!?

Our Government is punishing the WRONG group of people. The part of the population who are stealing and abusing drugs for no physical pain are the problem. And, I hate to admit this, but if you are in your late teens, 20’s even 30’s…you KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING WRONG and if YOU overdose and die…I frankly don’t care. These people have the same physical make-up that WE the “boomer’s” have, that our parents had and grandparents had. YOU, the government are punishing the WRONG people…can’t you get that through your stubborn heads…PLEASE?
