dismantle the corn industry

let our government know you support biodiverse farming

"You are what you eat is a truism hard to argue with, and yet it is, as a visit to a feedlot suggests, incomplete, for you are what what you eat eats, too. And what we are, or have become, is not just meat but number 2 corn and oil" The Omnivore's Dilema, Michael Pollan.

Did you know that cows are not made to eat corn? They are, however, forced to eat genetically modified corn, fat from other cows, (protein is protein, fat is fat), because it's cheap.

To grow this corn costs more than to buy it, so farmers get stuck in the cycle created by industry and our government, to rely on payments. Chemicals and synthetic fertilizers are used, polluting the water and soil, and yes, our food. The cows are not meant to eat grains, but grass, therefore, they get sick and must be given antibiotics and the meet is treated with irradiation so as not to pass the sicknesses to us. They sleep in their own feces and maintain an unpleasant existance. We eat all this.

How cheap is corn? So cheap that the hidden costs; oil, vets, antibiotics, hormones and our health are the only price we pay. Shame on the USDA, the agricultural industry and the federal government.

This industry is forcing the Americans to become mostly genetically modified corn; it is hidden everywhere and is not what is healthy for us.

We need to take action. I plea for you to join me in boycotting the corn industry and feedlot beef. Sign this petition to urge our government that our health is more important than the bottom line price of "cheap" beef. Urge our government to put an end to this type of "farming" immediately and revert to supporting balanced farms.

Thank you.
