Disapproving of So-Called "Peace Plan" for Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The unveiling of the so-called “Deal of the Century” is not a peace plan. A peace agreement is supposed to entail conflict-ending terms that are to the mutual benefit of both parties and can only be reached through a level-playing field. This so-called “deal” is nothing more than an attempt by President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to impose an extremist Israeli agenda on the Palestinians, without regard to the Palestinian people’s most basic rights or aspirations.

After over 70 years of displacement and over 50 years of brutal occupation, the Palestinian people remain steadfast and resilient in demanding justice in accordance with International Law and multiple United Nations resolutions. Paramount among these resolutions are:

-UN General Assembly Resolution 194, issued in 1948, calling on Israel to allow Palestinian refugees to return to their homes.

-UN Security Council Resolution 237, issued in 1967, calling on Israel to allow all Palestinian refugees to return to their homes.

-UN Security Council Resolution 242, issued in 1967, calling on Israel to fully withdraw from Arab territories it acquired by force during the June 1967 Six-Day War.

To this day Israel remains in defiance of all these resolutions, in addition to several others pertaining to its illegal annexation of Jerusalem and its illegal settlement activity on occupied Palestinian lands. To that end, we call upon members of Congress to reject the so-called “Deal of the Century” and to call on the Trump administration to show respect for International Law. There can never be a just and lasting peace agreement without securing the freedom of the Palestinian people.

We hope you will sign the Levin-Lowenthal letter currently circulating in the House. Adding your name is the best way to show support for a comprehensive peace that allows Israelis and Palestinians to live together in peace and security.
