Demand Action Against Israel’s ban of Rep. Rashida and Rep. Ilhan
We urge you to stand up for what is right and speak out against the Israeli government’s decision to ban Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar from entering Israel, minutes after President Trump encouraged the Israeli government to do just that. This is unheard of and unconstitutional.
Last week, Members of Congress went on an AIPAC sponsored delegation to Israel. This week, the two representatives who consistently speak out for Palestinian rights are being refused entry. Your colleagues who went on this trip need to speak up and demand they be let in. Anything less than this is an endorsement of Israel’s authoritarian and racist practices.
It is unconscionable that Israel would not allow their colleagues the same opportunity to visit. The congresswomen are traveling to Israel/Palestine so they can witness first hand the impacts of US policy on the lives of Palestinians - they have every right to do so. Israel’s move to deny them entry because they speak out for Palestinian rights is unacceptable. I urge you to issue a statement and demand that your colleagues be allowed the same opportunity to visit that they just had.
This announcement is entirely consistent with Israel’s racist and authoritarian practices toward Palestinians and all those who support Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS). Representatives Tlaib and Omar are two sitting members of Congress who were traveling to the region to witness the impacts of US policy on Palestinian lives – denying them entry is unconscionable.
