Congress/EPA: Let's Advance Our Nuclear Power to Thorium

After the recent disasters that have befell Japan and its citizens it is very clear we need nuclear reform

We the undersigned of this petition believe that after the recent disasters that have befell Japan and its citizens it is very clear we need nuclear reform. Now there has been a massive calling to end nuclear power, but that is the wrong way to think. Nuclear reactors still produce the most power for their environmental and responsible costs. They also pollute less than Coal Plants.

What needs to happen is that our reactors, and reactors around the world need to be upgraded to Generation 4 and Generation 5 reactors. That way they are safer, more efficient, produces more power, and produce less waste.

Past the move to more efficient generations of nuclear plants, we need to move to the element of Thorium as these plants power source. There is way more Thorium in this world, and we can use more of what's available. Also when used in a reactor it uses up well over 90% of its power making it way more efficient than Uranium. But that's not all, once spent rods are removed they take just a few short weeks to dissipate all radioactive tendencies versus Uranium's 200 years.

Few know this, but this world only contains %4 Uranium. Out of that small percentage we can only use 0.7% of it in our nuclear reactors. This planet also contains 10% Thorium, and all 10% of the available Thorium can be used in a nuclear reactor. This means that there is less waste and more product available when mining Thorium than Uranium.

Let us all push for more advanced, efficient, and safe nuclear reactors powered by Thorium. Earth and its people would be happy we did.
