Child Support Reform for equal custody

I am calling a petition to change child support laws in the case of equal custody or "essentially equal" parenting time.

While at one point in the not so distant past it was common for one parent to provide and the other to care for the child(ren). This is no longer the case. In todays economy both parties must share financial burden equally. The scales need to be rebalanced and the antiquated system in place needs to be re-written.

For parents that share equal custody the financial burden should be seen as equal and no child support should be applied in either direction. It is the responsibility of the parent to support themselves and the child within their home and within their assigned time. One should not be responsible to pay for the actions and outcomes of another persons life choices simply because they have a child(ren) together.

This is not to address absentee parents or parents who do not have equal time or custody, as the money obligated is to make up for the care not provided. This is strictly for those who provide equal care as the opposing parent.

Equal time Equal responsibility. A pay to parent system does a child no good and only puts one caring parent at an extreme disadvantage while leaving the other completely unaccountable.

Please update this out of date and completely unbalanced piece of our justice system.
