Calling for Congress to investigate and regulate Ticketmaster
Whereas, Ticketmaster holds a near monopoly on ticket sales for major entertainment acts and venues; and
Whereas, Ticketmaster has a well-documented history of colluding with ticket brokers to facilitate legalized scalping; and
Whereas, Ticketmaster rigs its online ticket sales to prohibit average fans from being able to purchase good seats at the list price, even when using things such as "verified fan" presale codes which Ticketmaster claims are in place to ensure average fans access to tickets before brokers; and
Whereas, Ticketmaster charges exorbitant service fees which often inflate the actual price of tickets by close to 50% above the list price when fans are even able to purchase tickets through their service, now, therefore we petition Congress to
1) Hold hearings and conduct a thorough investigation into Ticketmaster and its business practices;
2) Following such hearings and investigation, to pass legislation to regulate the anti-consumer practices of Ticketmaster and other, similar, services
