BAN PUPPY MILLS

THREE MILLION PETS ARE EUTHANIZED IN SHELTERS EVERY YEAR

To Whom It May Concern:

I am gravely concerned about the inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills and I want the puppy mill issue to be a priority for Congress. My request is for you to expand the reach of the Animal Welfare Act to include kennels that sell large numbers of puppies directly to the public.

Puppy mills contribute to pet overpopulation and cause countless dogs lifetimes of suffering in squalid wire cages and disregard the dogs' health?both physical and emotional?in order to maximize profits. It is estimated that there are at least 10,000 puppy mills in the U.S. Fewer than 3,000 of these are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
