BAN PINK SLIME FROM GROUND BEEF

Tell your elected officials you want the FDA to ban pink slime

?Pink slime? is beef trimmings. Once only used in dog food and cooking oil, the trimmings are now sprayed with ammonia so they are safe to eat and added to most ground beef as a cheaper filler. The product is not really beef, but a salvage product, where fat that has been heated at a low temperature and the excess fat spun out.

The ?pink slime? does not have to appear on food labels because, over objections of its own scientists, USDA officials with links to the beef industry have labeled it as meat. They also consider it beef because it is pink in color. This deception is consumer fraud. It is unacceptable and an outrage!

Consumers are paying higher prices for beef, and should get what they paid for, not beef with added fillers. Furthermore, beef with "pink slime" is being served in school cafeterias, which presents a concern with the nutrition and health of our children.

The USDA and The Food and Drug Administration should ban "Pink slime" from consumer products, and needs to take a more active role into the scrutiny and banning of unnecessary and/or chemical additives in our food!
