AVMA and ECFVG should change their policy towards Foreign Veterinary Graduates

The AVMA and ECFVGbare doing their best to disturb and prevent the foreign veterinary graduates to get their license through difficult, complex and tricky procedures.

What is ECFVG?

ECFVG is the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates; all foreign veterinary graduates in the United States are required to pass the ECFVG certification program (assessment exams) before they can apply for their veterinary license. The ECFVG is a sub division of the AVMA, American Veterinary Medical Association.

Actually, They are doing their best to disturb and prevent the foreign veterinary graduates to get their license through difficult, complex and tricky procedures.

They are trying all the time to enact new complicated rules and regulations (obstacles) to make it hard for foreign veterinary graduates to pass the ECFVG program and to hinder them to be licensed veterinarians in future.

The following action should be taken by the government:

The unaffordable and unreasonable registration and examination fees should be lowered.

English language proficiency test (TOEFL/IELTS), this process should be canceled or the required score should be lowered

Clinical Proficiency Examination (CPE) which is a part of the ECFVG is not entry level and expensive should be changed.

The process of verification of educational credentials takes long time and should be canceled.

The AVMA and the ECFVG are working against Foreign graduates because of the following reasons:

Fees : The registration and examination fees are very high and unaffordable, especially if you compare it to the fees that the foreign medical doctors pay (in the ECFMG certification program), and the fees that foreign pharmacist pay (in the FPGEC certification program).

The total fees required by foreign veterinarians in the ECFVG in 2016 is 8210$ (Registration: 1400$ / BCSE: 210$ / CPE: 6600$)

On the other hand the total fees required by the foreign pharmacist are only 1200$ and the total fees required by foreign medical doctors are only 2935$.

N.B: ECFVG is increasing the fees every year

English language proficiency test (TOEFL/IELTS) all foreign Veterinary graduates are required to take TOEFL or IELTS exam and achieve a very high score to complete the ECFVG.

On the other hand foreign medical doctors are not required to take any English language proficiency exam in their certification program.

N.B Medical doctors should be fluent in English language to communicate with patients rather than veterinarians.

This is another obstacle created by the AVMA to make foreign graduates away from their dreams. At least, the required score should be lowered.

Verification of educational credentials:

This is unnecessary extra-verification process because in the registration process, all foreign veterinary graduates should submit official and notarized educational credentials with governmental seal or stamp (So it is impossible for us to submit fake credentials). So the organization does not need to contact the foreign overseas colleges to verify our credentials.

This process might take long time.

N.B this procedure does not exist in the certification
