An Open Letter to Congress on HR 4269
Dear Sir or Madam
I am writing to inform you, as a citizen these United States, I strongly wish you would oppose the latest attack on our Second Amendment rights present in the new House resolution, H.R. 4269.
Not only will this act do nothing to stop gun violence in our country, but it will, in fact, hinder law abiding citizens from purchasing commonly owned firearms for personal protection. In its opening line the resolution clearly states:
?To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.?
First, ?and for other purposes? seems speculative, at best. This would allow the liberal minded courts to fabricate any reason they wanted to uphold this unconstitutional disregard of American gun owners. Secondly, the bill goes on to discuss what is an ?assault weapon?, a term coined by the left to, at this point, mean any weapon that fires more than ten (10) rounds and has a detachable magazine, which of course means any commonly owned semi-automatic pistol (which the bill later even states).
This resolution is atrocious, and threatens the very fabric of our rights as American citizens as gun owners. For if we are to ban all weapons based on a fabrication of the truth, we know that the criminals of this country would be the only ones to have them (other than our military and police forces), because we all know how well criminals obey the law. Look at Chicago. There is not ONE gun store in the city limits, yet the city, for years running, remains the shooting capital of the United States. With such strict laws on the books, even the most logical person must think perhaps the laws are not working when they apply to criminals, because after all, that is why they are criminals.
When you took an oath to your office you pledged to defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic. The current leftist regime is an enemy of the United States, and their blatant disregard of the Constitution must be stopped. We, as citizens, demand it. Please stop this effort, as you have in the past, from infringing yet again, on the law abiding gun owners of America.
