All Foreign Aid should be given as loans, not gifts and he American people desere to identify where they want their money to go!
Why are we giving billions of dollars ech year to foreign countries when we have millions of Americans at home here without food on their table?
Presently and in the past, we have gifted billions and billions of dollars to many counties who are not obligated to pay back this money in any way. This money belongs to the American people who should have a direct say in where and how much money should go where.
The majority of funds are given to Israel and Egypt, in both categories of Military Aid and Economic Aid. For example, in 2010 we have $400,000,000.00 to Israel for Economic Aid!!!!! In 2010 we gave Egypt $250,000,000.00 in economic aid!!! We have given both countries even greater amounts for Military Aid!!!!
I also believe that the majority of military installations around the world should be closed or decreased in size, unless those countries have and are paying for protection...
Other countries we gift to include: Jordan, Pakistan!!!!, Columbia, Kenya, Russia, Liberia, Bangladesh, etc.... Not to mention that their appears to be no accountability of the gifts that are given!!! We don't appear to have any processes in place to identify how and here h money is managed and then after the fact we begin asking questions!!!
Long story short is that most money is gifted and not returned!!!! Many of these countries are not necessarily developing countries and should have less attention paid to. It is unfair to our school children, homeless, veterans, etc.... let along the average taxpayer who would rather not give my money away!!!
Instead of gifting countless countries around the planet, set up funds for the hardest hit Americans from the Katrina Victims to the most recent victims in New York, from Storm Sandy. Not to mention taking these economic and military giveaways and use the money instead to create better schools here in America, provide improved benefits for veterans, the disabled, natural disasters, homeless, and lets not forget healthcare for everyone! Instead, the Americans money went to the big bank bailout!!!
The US is in no position at the moment to provide aid in the form of gifts when we have so many needy at home, who have likely paid their taxes yet have little control over where the money is spent. If I had a disaster tomorrow, and lost my home like the many from storm Sandy, would I get a reimbursement check from Uncle Sam to rebuild and restart, with no repayment obligations? I think not!!! And now we just gave 800,000,000.00 to Jordan, etc... Can't we fix our schools and get our homeless off the streets before we give taxpayers money away to causes they may not support???
I believe the American People should have 100% say in where their money is spent. I don't see any elected officials asking for anyone's opinion!!!
