affordable housing in NYC

NYC need more affordable housing options for low income families and families who are living in shelters.

I have been in NYC shelters over 2 years. I have been on nycha waiting list 2 years. I have 4 children ages 10, 3, 15 months, and 2 months. I think it's really crazy how families have to live in shelters for years waiting on permanent housing. I don't want my children to grow up in the shelter system. That's ridiculous. I only receive ssi and public assistance. The affordable low income apartments they are building are for working people. You have to make at least $30,000 a year. There need to be nice affordable apartments under $500 a month for lower income families or families receiving ssi. I would love to see families move out of shelters or out of other people homes into there on. Kids deserve there own rooms no matter what kind of income their parents have. I heard of some families being in nyc shelter system over 5,years. That don't make since. There also need to be more rent subsidies and rental assistance to help families move in there on place. If hra can pay for families to stay in shelters why not pay for families to have there own housing. Stop waisting funds on foolishness. Use the money they paying for shelters as apartment vouchers to move families from shelters and from other people's homes. There should be rental assistance programs not only for homeless families living in shelters but for families living in other people's homes, families who are receiving government funds as well. Please do something about this. There are over 20,000 children in the shelter system. Where they do that at? Really?
