The Savannah Hope Federal Stillbirth Tax Credit Act (H.R. 3549)

I, the undersigned, strongly support H.R. 3549 which would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow a refundable credit to parents, who have lost a child to stillbirth, in the year of the loss and am asking you to please sign on to be a co-sponsor to the bill.

After the loss of a child, many families strive to find answers to why the death occurred. In order to do this, parents may opt to have an autopsy performed, or genetic testing conducted. Sadly, most health insurance plans do not cover the costs for these tests which can cost as much as $2,000 for an autopsy and more than $8,000 for genetic testing.Parents also face the possibility of lost wages if they need to take additional time away from work.

Each year, more than 26,000 babies are stillborn in the United States. This bill would provide much needed financial support to deal with many of the expenses that are associated with stillbirth.

I urge you to support this bill by becoming a co-sponsor. By doing so, you will support families who will experience the tragic loss of a child in the future, and help families access additional testing which may provide research that leads to a reduction in stillbirth in the future.

Thank you for your attention and consideration.
