Stand for the dignity and equality of wounded veterans and people with disabilities

We urge the U.S. Senate to maintain a longstand American tradition of bipartisan respect for disability and veteran rights by joining more than 150 other nations;

Today, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee again approved the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). We applaud this development. But it is far from being guaranteed and could die on the Senate floor like it did in 2012. That is because a minority of senators continue to be influenced by a fringe group that doesn?t like the treaty because it simply doesn?t like the United Nations, even though America already has hundreds of treaties and recently ratified 4 fishery treaties.

We are asking that the U.S. Senate join more than 150 other nations by ratifying the CRPD, which is modeled on the pioneering Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We are asking that the rights of over a billion human beings, like us who have vision and hearing disability, around the world be respected and that politics be put aside. We are also urging the Senate to remember the sacrifices of our wounded servicemembers. Please do not allow misinformation to dictate how the Senate votes on the CRPD, and join the hundreds of veteran and disability groups, faith organizations and business groups, including the Consumer Electronics Association (representing more than 2,000 businesses), in support of worldwide equal rights for all. Thank you for your consideration and service to America.
