Let people with cerebral palsy enlist in wheelchairs

All my life, I have longed to join the United States Army to serve my country, in uniform with honor and dignity. Just like my forefathers and mothers who valiantly served in the U.S. Army fighting battles in Vietnam and Korea, I too aspire for such an esteemed responsibility.
However, as a person living with cerebral palsy and using a wheelchair for mobility, current regulations prevent me from fulfilling this dream. This is despite the fact that people with disabilities can offer unique perspectives and capabilities that can enhance our military forces.
According to a report by the National Council on Disability (NCD), there are over 4 million veterans living with disabilities - proof that disability does not equate inability when it comes to serving one's country (NCD Report on Disabled Veterans). Furthermore, advancements in technology have made it possible for individuals with various physical conditions to perform tasks previously thought impossible.
It is time we challenge outdated perceptions about disability within our military institutions. We must advocate for policy changes that allow individuals like myself – those living with cerebral palsy or other physical disabilities – an equal opportunity to serve their nation.
Please sign this petition urging lawmakers and military officials alike to revise enlistment policies so they reflect our modern understanding of disability. Let us demonstrate that courage knows no bounds or limitations!
