YES there remains a division between church and state. It is simply a shame that a school in the heart of such a powerful historical community is going to be closed June 1st, 2011. This is a decision of the Archdiocese but it can be over turned by the Vatican and CONGRESS CAN HELP. Research shows that in Virginia 2010 a similar situation happened and the Vatican stepped in. Our community is powerful in leadership and raw in upcoming talent. We "will" turn this around but with your help in Congress WE KNOW WE CAN. We look forward to your help to keep THE LASALLE SCHOOL AT SAINT GABRIELS located on 97th and Astoria Blvd, East Elmhurst NY 11369. Please contact the Archdiocese @ 718-229-8001 and ask for Michael Pizzingrillo. WE KNOW WE CAN. www.Hayden Horsham.com
I am very saddened by the closing of St. Gabriel's School. My whole family attended and graduated from this fine inistitution and later went on to attend and graduate from Catholic high school as well. I am ever so grateful for the education I received through the Catholic school system. St. Gabriel educated two generations of my family, graduating in the years 1964, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1993, 1995 and with my daughter being the last in 2003. On behalf of my family, we will always appreciate and value the education received there.
I had wonderful experiences in Catholic school, so much so that my son has been attending since 1st. grade. He is off to Catholic HS in the Fall.
I cannot explain to you the difference between the children who attend private Catholic schools versus public one. It may only be my experience, so I do not mean to denigrate those who did not attend Catholic school, but it is a way to introduce your child to values and strengthen their respect for God and others.
I would implore you to take all possible steps to save The Lassalle School at St. Gabriels.
I was only a student for 2 year while my brother was a student before me. The school has left a positive impact on my life in those 2 years that has never left me. Please keep the school open...
Our parish has the same problem and we are faced with the possibility of it closing tne school because of the low number of enrollments. I and my children have went to Catholics elementary schools. My parents did not have to pay for anything more then books. I was lucky to religious teaching most of my classes. However, that is no longer the situation.
We have lay people teaching who dedicated and do a terrific job. What the Catholic community has to do is have taxes credits or tuition vouchers which the government can issue. If you think they can't just ask any veteran who went to a Catholic College and the government paid them all the same. It can be done.
The next time you vote which I hope you do see if the candidate support tuition tax credits or tuition vouchers and vote for the candidate who does. You will be surprise to see the candidate you have been voting for years does not support it.
