I served the United States Marine Corps from June 1986-1992 in the reserves and was honorably discharged. I never used my GI Bill. I feel that I joined the Armed Forces straight out of high school and now that I need the assistance, the VA wants to turn their back on me when I never did.

I have worked in Law Enforcement since leaving the Marines in late 2006. I have now decided to make a career change and go back to school since my injuries sustained in service are getting worse. I really wish the 10 year cap wasn't on the GI Bill now I have very little time left to use it now that it is really needed.

This is so unfair, I served 20 years in the Navy, I was unable to use all of my benefits within the 10year period, I was raising my child and working full time. I want my benefits back

I chose the Montgomery GI Bill and the $30,000 Army College fund instead of a sign-on bonus of $15,000. I served 5 years and 8 months of active duty. The VA will not pay me the 30K I earned because it has been 12 years since my Honorable Discharge. Oh, how foolish I was to choose education over cash money.

Veterans who serve the country everyday and put on the uniform are now limited to the benefits they signed up fo,r hoping at some point to get an education. It may take 10yrs after being discharged due to family and others aspects of life after discharge. Job loss due to economic and corporate downsizing caused many veterans the need to be retrained and reeducated like myself. Now by the 10yr limit and expiration of the GI bill caused veterans like myself to be eliminated from the job market and upward mobility in obtaining any competitive jobs. We made a life commitment to the US and the military branch we joined to defend the country at any given time. So when veterans get out of uniform and transition back to civilian life we are now treated fairly for only 10yrs leaving veterans no other option but to pass the opportunity on going back to school and keeping veterans marketable.

There should not be a cap for years to use GI Bill. This bill is allowed to be passed to children of the Veterans as well. What if the child isn't of age to go to college before the benefits expire? This is a benefit that someone placed their life up for only to be taken away.

I was a full time stay at home mom with a part time job and a 100% total and disabled veteran husband. It was impossible for me to go back to school during those days but I I able to do so now and would like to do so.

I'm already past my 10 year mark. I had paid into the $600 extension as well as a young soldier in Germany. I though I had 15 years since I heard that somewhere.

I went to school for 20 months and received my Associates degree. After I had to take time off for my family and work. I now want to continue my education with the last 16 months that I have left, but my benefits will expire after only 8 months. I am going to write the VA and ask for an EXTENSION. If someone else has done this or got approved please let me know. Thanks

This directly applies to me, i have 2 kids and a fulltime job, but i still want to pursue higher education. Now that the kids are a bit older I may have a chance to enroll but am discouraged since I only have 6 months remaining until my mgib expires.

Veterans sacrifice their life for this country. We should be able to use the GI Bill at anytime, there should not be a 10 year limit. Everyone have different reason why they can't use it in 10 years. Take care of the veterans needs.

Some politicians serve a mere 4 year term with a excellent salary and the receive full benefits and a pension for the rest of their lives. Why do we allow this?

This happened to me as well. This needs to be retroactive for us if there is a fix.

They make our country what it is today, how can you even for a second think it is okay to treat their benefits, which do not compare, like a coupon. Government: "Oh don't worry we will take care of you after you put your life on the line for this country."- Disclaimer: there is a expiration date to ensure they still can come out on top.

It's so sad that those of us who needed to work right after the military can not use our Montgomery GI Bill after it expires. I wish there was an offer for 1/2 the amount now or something, seems like our money went to waste.

this benefit needs to never expire, most veterans have to support their families once they leave the military and can only go back to school once their kids are grown or they should be able to use it for their own children"s schooling.

When I ETS'd from active duty, I had to support myself with no help from family or friends. I had to take care of myself and work full time. I just wish that the ten year limit could be removed and given to the soldiers that opted for that additional benefit before giving their life to the government to protect the freedom of our fellow citizens. I dk t have the money for school but would love to go back to college.
