This happened to me, too. I learned about the expiration just before it expired. Before that, I was under the mistaken impression that you had 10 years to use it up once you chose to begin using it.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a 100% Disabled Veteran and because of my illness I have not been allowed the opportunity to better myself through education because a ten year cap put on my ability to go to school. Being disabled means having to work around my disability but shouldn't mean I can't use my GI BILL because of my disability making me wait for a better opportunity!REPORT COMMENTS

A full time father, and a full time employee, didn't leave me much time to study. Now that my kids are older, and I have taken a "break" from work to improve my education, I found out that It has expired!.....My God!......This is so unfair!REPORT COMMENTS

I had no reason or time to go to school as I got a great job right out of the military. I had my job for many years. When I was laid off I needed other options. Now that I have time to go back to school I do not have the GI Bill to use. Those benefits should never expire. Soldiers should be able to use them any time throughout their life until the benefits are completely used.REPORT COMMENTS

Not all of us had a support system waiting for us when we got out. Both of my parents passed away while I was serving and when I was discharged I already had a mortgage that needed to be paid. Now that I finally have the time and energy to go back to school I no longer have the means that I paid for. At the very least I think we all deserve a refund of the $1200 we paid into the fund.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with this 100%. Going to school requires the right mindset and circumstances. Sometimes veterans have their hands full for longer than 10 years past their active military duty. However, I think all citizens should have a right to education without incurring massive amounts of debt.REPORT COMMENTS
